We awoke today to two very different sounds, at 6 AM the Gregorian chanting of monks encouraged us out of our beds mixed with the sound of hard rain outside and it was expected to rain like this all day. We packed and dressed for the rain as we headed to a generous pilgrims breakfast.
The rain was never ended during the day and the down hill decent into Zubiri was slippery and dangerous. You realize you are far from any medical support and one wrong step can end your walk so we proceeded slowly getting into town late with no reservtions.
I was ahead of James and agreed to look for rooms. The town was booked solid and we were both exhausted haveing left at 7:30 it was now 5 PM. After a number of attempts to find a room one woman said to go to the tourist information one block up the road. We were in the office and preparing to take a cab to Pamplona for the night and then return to walk in the AM when the phone rang and the same woman had just had two beds canceled. With out asking us the gentleman we were working with accepted for us and told us to return to the albergue we had just left where we had two beds in a dorm. We were very grateful. There is an expression that ‘The Camino Provides’, an maybe it does. It did for us today.
