Why I'm Walking

Join Me in helping to End Cancer

A number of years ago I started to think about walking the Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James) in Spain. This historic 500 mile walk dates back to 812 ce and was designated one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. In December of 2018 I stopped thinking about it and I did something about it – I bought my plane tickets and started making plans. I was committed to walk ‘The Way’.

There are a number of Camino Trails leading to Santiago, Spain but I chose to walk the Camino Frances a 500 mile route starting in St. Jean Pied de Port, France to Santiago and on to Cape Finisterre Spain’s most western point. The Romans called it Finisterrae (literally the end of the world or Land’s End in Latin) as they looked out over the Atlantic they though that beyond that point there was nothing else.

As the months of preparation went by I sensed something missing. I knew I was very fortunate to have the means and the health to make such a wonderful trip. I knew a number of friends and family members far less fortunate, many having fought cancer with various degrees of success and many not so successful. I started to make a list of those I knew who were impacted by this disease and I promised that each day of my walk I would walk for one of those people, silently dedicating that days walk to them and their family.

I also decided to join Team CRI’s cause. Their mission: Save more lives by fueling the discovery and development of powerful immunotherapies for all types of cancer. Please help me support the Cancer Research Institute by making a donation through my page.   Thank you so much for your support… and don’t forget to share with your friends and family!
